Our laboratory is conducting medicinal chemistry research based on biofunctional molecules such as peptides. Targets are intractable diseases such as cancer, genetic diseases, and infectious diseases, and the ultimate goal is to create pharmaceuticals. Focusing on diseases with a small number of patients and new molecular targets, we are conducting research with the significance of contributing to society.
1) Peptide-based drug development
・ Development of diketopiperazine type anticancer drug targeting tubulin
・ Development of muscular dystrophy therapeutic drug based on negamycin, a dipeptide read-through agent
・ Development of therapeutic drug for muscular dystrophy using myostatin inhibitor peptide
・ Development of peptide-type protease inhibitors for the treatment of infectious diseases
・ Development of neuromedin U receptor regulator
2) Chemical biology research using biofunctional molecules (using chemistry to elucidate the mysteries of life at the molecular level)
・ Analysis of microtubule depolymerization mechanism of anticancer compounds by photoaffinity labeling
・ Elucidation of the mechanism of nonsense mutation read-through by negamycin
3) Chemical pharmacology research
(Utilizing organic chemistry to develop the drugs with pharmaceutical value)
・ Development of prodrugs too improve water solubility and cell membrane permeability
・ Development of antibody drug conjugates using antibody-binding peptides
・ Development of tight junction opening agent
4) Organic synthetic chemistry for drug discovery
・ Development of a novel synthetic method of peptides and proteins using novel disulfide bond forming reagents
